System under consideration is intended for analysis of raster images of documents. It ensures highly reliable recognition and reading of printed documents supplied with special machine-readable zone, such as passports, visas and other important papers.

• automatical detection and underlining of machine-readable zones on images
• automatical fragmentation of the lines detected into pieces corresponding to separate symbols
• numerical and literal symbols recognition
• control and correction of the sequence detected taking into consideration the machine-readable zone structure

• the machine-readable zones detection is independent from the size and orientation of the document in the image
• stable recognition of machine-readable symbols with low resolution (170-200 dpi)
