IIT MD SDK

Overview:


IIT Motion Detector (MD) is the solution that enables the real-time detection and tracking of moving objects on the digital video images.

Typical Motion Detection systems perform the detection and tracking of moving objects relative to fixed static background. In case of rotated cameras or mobile vehicles (cars, trains, plans and so on) the background is changed too due to the relative motion of the camera. The principal advantage of proposed solution is the simultaneous estimation of objects motion and background scene motion.

The IIT MD Software Development Kit (SDK) allows easy incorporation of IIT MD technology into the user's software systems.

The IIT MD API provides the set of functions that makes possible the quick image processing in order to detect and track moving objects on the digital video images.

Functions:

  • Estimation and compensation of camera motion
  • Detection of moving objects
  • Tracking of moving object or multiple objects
  • Camera motion/rotation control in order to trace the moving object "physically"

Features:

  • Video input: Digital image from scanner or video camera (including web cameras)
  • Recognition output: number, position (bounding box) and motion parameters of detected objects
  • Performance: Characteristic processing rate for 320õ200 image size - 25 frames per second (for IBM PC PentiumIV-2Hz)

Advantages:


  • No special equipment. The low cost web camera can be easily used as a motion detection device.
  • Detection of moving objects relative to moving background. The simultaneous estimation of objects motion and background scene motion is provided. Additionally one can use the a priory knowledge about the character of camera motion, but such knowledge does not required in general.
  • Robustness relative to scene brightness changes. The adaptation to scene brightness changes is provided by special procedures of non-linear local filtering and dynamical contour searching.
  • Possible camera motion/rotation control based on results of object tracing.
  • Convenient API. Easy incorporation of MD component into the user's applications.
